Undercharging is rarely a math error. It is usually a missing artefact: you negotiate from vibes in a DM instead of a calm one-pager that states packages, inclusions, exclusions, and payment schedule. Australian freelancers also need the page to speak AUD, GST treatment (if registered), and local payment rails without turning into a 12-page proposal.

What belongs on a pricing one-pager

  1. Who it is for — one sentence niche (e.g. “AU solo consultants needing Notion ops”)
  2. 3 packages — Good / Better / Best or Retain / Project / Rescue — not seven SKUs
  3. What is included — bullets a client can forward to their boss
  4. What is out of scope — the quiet profit protectors
  5. AUD prices — exclusive or inclusive of GST stated plainly
  6. Payment schedule — deposit %, progress invoices, Net 7/14
  7. How to start — reply / book / pay deposit link
  8. Validity — “Prices current as of …” so stale screenshots die

A simple AUD packaging pattern

PackageUse whenPayment shape
Starter / AuditUnclear scope100% upfront or 50/50
Core projectDefined deliverable30–50% deposit + milestone
RetainerOngoingInvoice on the 1st before the month

Publish the pattern; customise numbers per client. If every quote is from scratch, you will discount under time pressure.

GST line without becoming an accountant

If you are GST-registered, label prices as GST-inclusive or exclusive and keep the invoice layout consistent. If you are not, do not fake a GST line. Operational flag in Notion is enough — see ABN & GST lite admin.

Where the one-pager sits in the stack

  1. Prospect asks “what do you charge?”
  2. Send one-pager PDF (not a thread)
  3. If they bite → proposal / SOW with deposit schedule
  4. Deposit clears → kickoff checklist
